September 2019 : London Jazz - Exploring London's resurgent Jazz scene

In September I was commissioned by Mabuhay Magazine (Philipines Airlines) to explore the bars and clubs at the forefront of London’s resurgent Jazz scene. From experimental underground happenings like Deptfords ‘Steam Down’ to Soho’s legendary Ronnie Scotts - Jazz seems to be enjoying a renaissance. BBC’s young Jazz musician of the year - Xhosa Cole (pictured) personifies this new generation.

July 2019 : New Regeneration - Farming in Andalusia

In July a trip to rural Spain for Tui’s inflight magazine ‘Flyjournal’. Our focus was the inspiring story of a region in Andalusia that is undergoing a revolution in farming. Here a generation of farmers are attempting to re-introduce ancient agricultural methods with an aim to restore the local soil, which has been badly eroded through decades of unsustainable farming practices.

June 2019 : ebiking in Alta Badia, Italy

In June we ventured into the Dolomites and the picturesque region of Alta Badia for Easyjet Traveller magazine. Famous for its challenging cycle routes we took a more leisurely approach, taking a tour on a ebike. It may have made the mountain passes a little easier to handle but took nothing away from the regions outstanding natural beauty.

May 2019 : Woodstock - 50 years on

To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock festival Virgin Airlines flew us back to the location where it all happenned. In July 1969 a crowd of approaching 500,000 descended upon the tiny village of Bethel, New York State. About an hour from Woodstock itself, the site looks very different today. A huge museum complex sits within a few acres of very well maintained farmland - the site where the actual festival took place. We met a few of the original festival goers who recounted their experiences from that legendary weekend and some of the people involved with maintaining the regions rich musical history. Woodstock and the surrounding area is fast becoming a very desirable location for wealthy New Yorkers, but is determined to hold on to its original ‘Hippy’ charm.

February 2019 : Morocco Film - Hollywood in the desert

Later in February a trip into the Atlas mountains to visit Morocco’s little known film studios and locations. Having provided the backdrop for such productions as ‘Gladiator’ and more recently ‘Game of Thrones’ these partially abandoned set’s now lay dormant like decaying monuments in the desert.

2018 A Year in View : November - Absinthe trail, Switzerland

Also in November we were asked to hike and bike along the little know Absinthe trail in Val-de-Travers, Switzerland. A tiny region near the French border that stakes claim to being it’s birthplace. Everything from sausages to ice cream seems to have one very important ingredient in this small Valley. You can even find bottles of Absinthe dotted along the route to help you on your way.

2018 A Year in View : September - Westfjords, Iceland

The landscape in Iceland is otherworldly and unique. Round every bend in the road lies another awe-inspiring natural wonder. As well as being home to some of the worlds largest glaciers and waterfalls. Iceland can also stake claim to having one of Europes last true wilderness regions - The ‘Westfjords’ - In September I took a road trip to explore.

2018 A Year in View : August - Raymond Blanc

In August I spent a fabulous day with the legendary Raymond Blanc at his Oxfordshire restaurant Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. He was very generous with his time showing me round the extensive gardens that provide much of the fresh produce for the restaurant - stopping only for selfies with over excited diners.
